POSITION:
Counselor, (Community College Professional 19)
12 Month Tenure Track Position

ANTICIPATED STARTING DATE:
Spring Semester 2010

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree in Counseling or a closely related field, together with from two to five years of experience in a professional counseling capacity; or a combination of experience and training which would lead to the competencies required for effective performance of the position’s essential duties.

They must also provide appropriate references. Exceptions to the degree requirements may be made for compelling reasons.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Counselor typically works under the direction of the Director of Counseling. The position is required to have extensive cooperative and collaborative relationships with students, faculty, staff and with professionals in peer organizations, other higher education institution faculty and staff, and professional associations. The Counselor is accountable for contributing to the academic, career, personal, and social success of the College’s students through effective performance in these essential functional areas: student counseling program development; student counseling, and consultation with faculty and staff.

MINIMUM SALARY:
$60,789, approximate annual, plus excellent medical insurance, retirement and related fringe benefits.

Employer Description
Naugatuck Valley Community College is an open admission institution with selective placement into some programs.

Courses are conveniently offered days, evenings and weekends, and individuals may enroll as full or part-time students. Full-time students take at least twelve (12) credits per semester. Courses vary in the amount of credit they carry; however, most courses are worth three (3) credits.
