University Assistant: Database Administrator (P/T)

Salary: $17-$25/hour dependent upon level of experience

Information Technology seeks part-time Database Administrator (DBA) position (up to 19 hours weekly).  Under the general supervision of System Administrator, the DBA will be responsible for:

  • Production support of databases;
  • Install, configure, tune, optimize, administer, monitor, trouble-shoot and support of our transactional and analytical relational databases;
  • Assist in the development and implementation of security scheme for the CCSU system database environment, as well as being a participant in disaster recovery planning;
  • Participate with hardware/software vendors in the assessment of tools that would enhance the CCSU systems database environment and policies.
  • Participate in the training and development of CCSU system staff to better utilize databases and the CCSU computing environment; and
  • Perform other duties related to those enumerated above which do not alter the basic level of responsibility of the position.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required, preferably in computer science, information systems, or related field.   Two years of DBA experience preferred, ideally working with Oracle and Unix/Linux in a networked environment. Experience in Data Warehousing technology, application developing programming is a plus.  Must be self-motivated, team oriented, adaptable, and capable of managing competing priorities.  Must possess excellent written and verbal skills and have a commitment to quality and continuous improvement.  An equivalent combination of credentials and or experience may also be considered. Matriculated graduate students may also be considered.
