Academic Counselor/Coordinator (UCP VII)
Counseling Program for Intercollegiate Athletes

The Counseling Program for Intercollegiate Athletes is searching to fill a position for an Academic Counselor.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to providing academic career, social and personal counseling to members of the University of Connecticut Intercollegiate Athletic basketball team; assessing academic needs of students and coordinating and carrying out appropriate support and intervention strategies; monitoring academic progress in accordance with NCAA and University rules; working in conjunction with other University personnel and programs; and developing and implementing academic enhancement programs.

Minimum Qualifications:  an advanced degree in Counseling Education or appropriate discipline and five years of related experience; the ability to work with students from diverse ethnic, educational and cultural backgrounds and be familiar with the academic and social issues they face; good interpersonal skills including the ability to interact with faculty, staff and coaches, and members of the community; excellent written and verbal skills; the ability to work some evenings monitoring study halls and attend recruiting functions on weekends to meet with prospective student-athletes and their parents; as well as the ability and willingness to travel.

Preferred Qualifications:  Experience advising and counseling Division I intercollegiate student-athletes.

Salary:  Commensurate with experience.  Screening will begin immediately and continue until position is filled.
