Education Assistant - Communications Specialist

Minimum qualifications for the position is a bachelor’s degree in communications or a related field. The position is for 17 hours per week for 35 weeks. Hourly rate of pay is $24.21. Start Date is as soon as the position is filled. End date is June 30, 2010.

This is a position within the Department of Marketing and Public Relations contributing to managing the public content and organization of the college’s public relations, online social networking, print publications, and website. Manage the Content Management System training and work closely with the college Webmaster. Work closely with other college directors to ensure coordinated flow of information and maximum utilization of content.

  • Provide timely and useful information to target audiences through press releases, print, web and electronic communications.
  • Manage and ensure timely, relevant, and current content of the college's public web presence.
  • Promote consistent brand messaging. · Manage the Content Management Services (CMS) training program.
  • Serve as liaison with college and System webmasters and web development personnel.

Candidate will possess an excellent understanding of the role played by print, web, and electronic communications in the college environment.

  • Good communication and editing skills.
  • Ability to translate institutional communication needs into web communication programs.
  • Understanding of web design, hierarchy, and web usability.
  • Excellent computer skills.

Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Marketing or related field or associate’s degree and extensive experience in public relations, institutional communications, web communications, journalism, publishing or equivalent.

Understanding of web development tools a plus.
