Child Development Laboratories

The Child Development Laboratories at the University of Connecticut is seeking an Assistant Teacher in the Toddler Program.

Responsibilities include:  Teaching young children directly, providing for individual needs in all areas of development and arranging classroom environment to meet developmental needs as directed by the Teacher/Master Teacher;  assisting in the planning and carrying out curriculum and program by observing and documenting children’s growth and development in coordination with other classroom teachers; providing  information for use in developmental assessments on individual children; assisting in planning curriculum, program goals and classroom procedures in accordance with the philosophy of the Child Development Labs; maintaining contact with parents through daily connections and communications; keeping abreast of current literature in the area of child development and participating in opportunities for continued professional development in accordance with NAEYC criteria;  and providing feedback regarding educational innovations and improvements.

Minimum Qualifications:  Associates degree in early childhood education, child development, or related field; completed practicum work or at least one year of teaching experience working with toddler aged children; and the ability to relate to young children.

Preferred Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or child development; completed practicum experience with Head Teacher Qualification or State Certification; and the ability to work independently.

Target salary is $34,113 pro-rated to 85% (10-months).  This is a ten month, end date position subject to annual renewal.
