The University of Connecticut seeks applications for the position of Director of the Avery Point Campus. Avery Point, one of five regional campuses in the UConn system, extends the University’s land grant mission with world-class faculty and dedicated staff; has a reputation for excellence in teaching and research; and has an important mission of outreach and engagement with the diverse community along the Connecticut coastline and within the state.

The Avery Point Director provides leadership in the formulation and implementation of Avery Point academic programs, goals, and objectives and is responsible for the development and implementation of a campus Academic Plan and Master Plan for Avery Point.  The Campus Director controls all activities and manages the day-to-day operations of the campus including personnel, facilities, and budget; collaborates with university colleagues and academic department heads to recruit, hire and manage adjunct faculty; nurtures relationships with K-12 schools, community colleges and other educational institutions to recruit top-quality students to UConn; partners with faculty, staff and students to maintain a climate of collegiality, effective communication and learning appropriate for a leading research university; develops relationships critical to the success of the Avery Point regional campus such as alumni, civic, youth, historical, maritime, arts and other groups and organizations; promotes the UConn Avery Point regional campus through marketing and public relations efforts; advocates for resources and external funding with local agencies and federal government and participates in professional development activities with appropriate groups and organizations.  The Director must have strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain constructive and professional relationships with a wide variety of individuals.

Minimum Qualifications:  A doctorate with a track record of academic leadership, scholarship, teaching, and community engagement is required.  A faculty appointment is negotiable for candidates with sufficient academic credentials.  Additional qualifications include demonstrated leadership and management experience in a professional setting, including financial and budgetary management experience; excellent leadership and communication skills with the ability to engage students, faculty, staff, alumni, campus supporters, and residents of area communities; experience building effective collaborative teams as well as delegating responsibility as appropriate; a demonstrated commitment to enhance the quality and diversity of the campus population; ability to identify key issues in complex situations, evaluate options and initiate solution strategies that align resources with goals; excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to develop and maintain constructive and professional relationships with a wide variety of individuals are also required. Preference will be given to those whose leadership experience has been at an institution of higher education with a background and experience pertinent to the unique maritime mission of the Avery Point campus.

This is a full-time 12-month position.  Salary is commensurate with experience.  Applications will be accepted until position is filled.
